Mayfirst Hackaton de traducción

Una iniciativa de miembros de la Cooperativa Tecnológica Primero de Mayo México.

Se trata de una propuesta para atender la necesidad de la comunidad de miembros habla hispana -propiamente castellano- de acceder a la documentación técnica disponible para el aprovechamiento de todos los recursos compartidos por nuestra asociación y promover habilidades para el desarrollo de nueva documentación en nuestro propio idioma.

Partimos de que quién se hace parte de esta iniciativa tiene los conocimientos necesarios sobre ambos idiomas (inglés y español), pero también esperamos la ayuda en el proceso de compas que no necesariamente hablan español. En adelante la documentación se desarrolla en inglés con la intención de invitarles a sumarse para asistir en la edición, en la puesta a punto la colaboración en el sistema, entre otras tareas.

Goal

Translating all the FAQ pages in our support wiki in one journey -one Saturday, maybe-. We will concentrate in English->Spanish translation together in close remote collaboration.

Organizing

Before the Hackaton day

1. We promote the Hackaton with two or three months in advance with the help of graphic design that expresses the relevance of Internationalism and Solidarity as technological transfer and skills sharing.
2. We setup the right queries in support.mayfirst.org for automatically showing the progress of the translation, before, during and after the Hackaton.
3. We conform two working groups: Wiki Editors ​familiar with the WikiFormatting markup language and Ilustrators who will prepare the most ilustrations they can in Spanish of the interfaces, menus, etc. already shown in the English version of the FAQ pages.
4. We get ready to register all participants as to follow up on reports and next calls.

For Ilustrators and Editors

1. Be on hold to address questions and support to the translation working groups during the event. It is important to consider that collaboration in the wiki only allows one editor of a page at a time. Please try to avoid editing if someone in the translation group has the editor open.

During the Hackaton day: First, we concentrate in translation

We conform groups of translators by topic of interest.

For every body

1. We have a central pad to bring questions and clearify criteria and conventions, and also mumble rooms for audio communication during the Hackaton.
2. The query system will show in real-time the over all progress during the journey and how we will reach our goal at the end.

For each translation working group

1. First concentrate on translation, without concern about text formating or images, just text traslation.
2. Name a person who will keep the record of the progress and who will create de the new translated page in the wiki. Unlike others in the working group, this person should have a user account in Mayfirst systems.
3. Start the traslation work of each page, by opening a public ticket. Mention there which page will be translated and who is in the translation group. Update the ticket when you have finished or in case you have suspended (don't forget to provide reference to the work already done). Use one ticket per page to be translated, in that way you will let others know about the work that your group is doing and to keep trac of the overall progress.
4. Copy the content of each page and paste it in a common pad text editor that the group uses to translate and convene on corrections and improvements
5. Once you have finished, create a new wiki page with the same name but with .Es at the end AND with the same location (path). Copy the text from the pad, directly in the new wiki page and save it. Update the corresponding ticket for this wiki page AND add the tag "translated".

During the Hackaton day: Secondly, we address formatting and ilustration

1. There, in the same ticket, in case you need it, ask for help to Editors and Ilustrators, as to make the page look pretty and to improve it with visual aids. That is a second stage in the process. They will let you know if there are images ready for your translation.
2. In case there are no images in spanish available, please consider contributing with images if you are able, Editors can help you publishing them correctly. If you are not able, we will solve this later.

During the Hackaton day: Lastly, make sure to report

1. If the FAQ page has been completely translated and it has ilustrations also in Spanish, then close the ticket as solved (fixed). If not, make sure details are documented in the corresponding ticket and leave it open.
2. Take some time to have a drink and a snak and start the same process with the next FAQ page.

After the Hackaton day

1. Organizers, editors and ilustrators review translated pages, solve pending tickets and organize new content.
2. Report on the achievements to all participants and to Mayfirst membership.
