Membership Meeting Mesas

The Members Meeting includes a series of lead up meetings held by phone and a face-to-face meeting held simultaneously in New York City and Mexico City. All members, regardless of geographic location, are encouraged to participate in all meetings. English and Spanish will be the only languages supported.

Our discussions will be divided into three topic areas, referred to as mesas:

Infrastructure
The Infrastructure, Resources and Security in Communications mesa will address the stability and resilience of our infrastructure and systems. In addition to our technology infrastructure, this mesa also must address paid vs volunteer staffing, office and other recurring expenses, as well as securing our internal and external communications. Make a proposal or view current infrastructure proposals.
Movement
The Membership Recruitment, Movement Work and Strategy mesa will address both outreach and inreach strategies, campaigns, conferences and how and what messages we are communicating. Make a proposal or view current movement proposals.
Democracy
The Structure, Democracy, Membership Involvement, Administration and the conditions of development outside the US will tackle our democratic processes and structure -both in the US and Mexico - with the goal of increasing participation and involvement of our members. It will also review the coop initiative in Mexico and the conditions for the development of new organizational processes in other countries. Make a proposal or view current democracy proposals.

Proposals

Prior to any meetings of the mesas, members are encouraged to make written proposals to these mesas as they see fit via the proposal form.

Participants of each mesas should check the mesa wiki page prior to the lead up meeting to familiarize yourself with the proposals.

Lead Up meetings

Following is the schedule of lead-up meetings. Each meeting will last approximately 2 hours:

Infrastructure
Thursday, September 19, 2013, 6:00 PM New York/5:00 pm Mexico City
Movement
Thursday, September 26, 2013, 6:00 PM New York/5:00 pm Mexico City
Democracy
Thursday, October 3, 2013, 6:00 PM New York/5:00 pm Mexico City

Decisions will not be made during the lead-up meetings. These meetings are intended to generate discussion and identify areas of agreement and debate so that we may more effectively make decisions at the membership meeting. All mesas are expected to address the political vision of the organization at the beginning of each meeting, in order to provide direction to the following stages of the lead-up meetings and give the membership meeting a clear political perspective to decide on the development of our association for the year 2014.

At the end of each lead up meeting one or two volunteers should be assigned to draft a document that includes the consensed upon issues and lists the areas of disagreement. This document will be used at the face-to-face meeting as the basis of the mesa's final plans.

Face-to-Face Meeting

Saturday, October 19, 2013, 10:00 am New York/9:00 am Mexico City - 5:00 pm New York/4:00 PM Mexico City

The face to face meeting is the culmination of the meeting process. All three mesas will meet simultaneously for most of the day and be tasked with drafting a document that guides the organization in the area covered by the mesa. Each mesa will meet with a phone/Internet connection and simultaneous interpretation allowing New York, Mexico City and remote members to participate together. An hour and a half prior to the close of the meeting, each mesa will be encouraged to pick one person in New York and one in Mexico City to finalize the draft so it can be presented to the entire membership at the end of the meeting.

The NYC face to face meeting will take place at:

Alwan for the Arts
16 Beaver Street, 4th Floor
(between Broad Street & Broadway)
New York, NY 10004

We are now arranging a place for the Mexico face to face meeting and are planning the technology for the remote participation.
