How do I setup Mac Mail to use May First/People Link email?

This tutorial is based on Mac Mail v. 2.0.5 (OS 10.4, Tiger). It assumes your domain name is and your username is joyfull.

  • From the toolbar, Apple Menu -> Preferences. Click the button to add a new account

  • Select POP from the Account Type drop down.

  • Fill in your incoming mail information. Your username and password should have been assigned to your by May First or you organization's account manager when your email account was created.

  • If you get the following error about not being able to connect to the server - you can safey ignore it. You are getting the error because we haven't properly setup security yet.

  • Set your incoming security settings (NOTE: Make sure Authentication is set to "password").

  • Enter your outgoing mail information. Note - your outgoing username and password is the same as your incoming username and password. And your outgoing server name should be the same as your incoming server name.

  • Set your outgoing security settings.

  • You should see a summary like this.

  • When all is finished, it should look something like this:

  • Last step: If you click on Server Settings, make sure server port is set to 587, the SSL box is checked and the Authentication is set to Password.
