Email deliverability status

This is a companion page to our email deliverability strategies page. It documents our bulk email servers and the status of our strategies for each major email provider.

I made use of a ISP summary wiki page when doing these applications.

Hosts

Shared by MF/PL multiple members

The following are our bulk mail sending hosts directly managed by MF/PL:

  • leslie.mayfirst.org (provides discussion mailman lists via lists.mayfirst.org and lists.critpath.org)
    • Assigned IPs: 209.51.172.12, 209.51.180.249, 209.51.163.203, 216.66.23.44
  • assata.mayfirst.org (provides announcement and other high volume mailman lists via lists.people-link.net and provides relaying via bulk.mayfirst.org)
    • Assigned IPs: 209.51.172.11, 216.66.23.37, 209.51.180.23, 209.51.172.9
  • mx3.mayfirst.org (provides mailman lists via lists.laneta.apc.org)
    • Assigned IPs: 209.234.253.241, 64.145.66.135

Managed dedicated to single Member

  • morales.mayfirst.org (provides listserv lists for Portside plus one mailman list)
    • Assigned IPs: 209.51.180.25, 209.51.172.4
  • marti.mayfirst.org (provides bulk mail for PTP's CiviCRM sites)
    • Assigned IPs: 199.58.80.203 199.58.80.201

Registered Feedback Loops and Bulk Mail application status

Upstream providers

  • Hurricane Electric: complaints are sent to abuse@mayfirst.org
  • Highwinds: no automated feedback loop, but they manually send complaints to us. I've requested that abuse@mayfirst.org be included in any complaint emails sent
  • Koumbit: complaints handled by Progressive Technology Project

Major Mail Providiers

Bulk mail forms have only been submitted for the MF/PL shared bulk server IPs because PTP and Portside will have better luck handling their bulk mail status separately from MF/PL.

See #6314 for a ticket on setting up the feedback loops. Feedback loop address submitted is: abuse@mayfirst.org. This address expands to Jamie's personal email. Jamie generally checks to see if the message appears to be a legit message from a member (and if so simply deleted complaint) or appears to spam from a compromised account (which triggers an investigation/ticket).

  • Google (gmail) provides a page for bulk senders but I haven't found any bulk sender application form or any indication of a feedback loop.
  • Roadrunner has a general postmaster page.
    • 2012-11-16 filled out the feedback loop page (although seems to be operated by Return Path, same as Comcast, so may just be duplicating efforts). Received confirmation that it was processed on 2012-11-17.
