Why won't May First/People Link manage my domain name?

Domain name registration is not part of your dues payment and, as a general policy, May First/People Link does not register or make payments for domain names on behalf of members.

This policy makes it harder on members to keep their Internet presence working and functioning properly. Why would we do that?

The reason is because we believe that our members should be fully empowered and in control of their Internet presence. If a member has control over their domain name, they have the ultimate ability to do anything they want with it, including moving it to another provider. When your hosting provider retains control over your domain name, they can essentially hijack your domain name, preventing you from moving it or doing what you want with it.

We believe that this policy conforms to a best practice that should be respected with all hosting providers.
