History
MOSH servers refer to servers that provide web and email hosting for most May First/People Members, in contrast with the dozens of specialty servers the provide functions like backup, video streaming, DNS, etc.
The MOSH acronym for May First/People Link servers emerged as we transitioned to puppet as our primary server maintenance infrastructure. As we attempted to divide up the approx. 100 servers, it became clear that we lacked a clear terminology for differentiating server purpose. MOSH became the accidental term used to describe the most important servers for May First/People Link infrastructure, those most often used to serve web content and provide email services.
