Organization Bio:

May First/People Link (MF/PL) is an organization that redefines the concept of "Internet Hosting Service" in a collective, progressive and collaborative way. May First/People Link is like a coop: members, pay dues that are used to support a shared internet infrastructure that support websites, email, email lists, and just about everything else we do on the Internet.

May First/People Link is a project organized by a group of progressive activists who have been working in the technology sector for years. We provide Internet services and technology organization with a mission to help reclaim the Internet, enhance its function as a tool for mass communication and organizing, develop new technologies and uses for it, and help social justice movements use it effectively.

Presenter Bios

Alfredo Lopez – The Praxis Project/May First/People Link (moderator)

Alfredo Jose Miguel Lopez is an activist, writer, media producer, teacher and organizer in Brooklyn, New York. He is the Technology Manager of the Praxis project and staff and Leadership Committee member of May First/People Link.

Rasha Abdulhadi - Project South/People's Movement Assembly:

Born and raised in rural south Georgia, Rasha brings more than 9 years experience as both a popular and academic educator to her position as Communication Organizer with Project South. She draws on skills in web design, information technology, facilitation, strategic planning, handcraft, herbal medicine, and ecological farming.

Betty Yu – Center for Media Justice/Media Action Grassroots Network (MAG-Net)

As coordinator of MAG-Net, Betty manages a national media justice network of over 100 grassroots community organizations, coordinates nine regional chapters and curates the media justice learning community. She has over 15 years of community organizing, media activist, and filmmaking experience.

Olinca Marino - Laneta and Alliance for Progressive Communication

Olinca´s expertise focuses on environmental and gender projects related to information communications and technology (ICTs). She believes in civil society as a key piece for the change with social justice. She has been working with social organizations for more than 20 years. She coordinated LaNeta until 2009. She was Executive Board member and Vice Chair of the global Association for Progressive Communications (APC).

Ayenay Abye – The Praxis Project

Ayenay was formerly the Lead Organizer with Californians for Justice in Oakland and Long Beach, California. At Californians For Justice AyeNay led a successful campaign, So Fresh, So Clean, winning $16 million dollars for Oakland High School under the landmark Williams v. California Settlement. She has now moved to Washington DC and is the Field Director at The Praxis Project.

Jerome Scott - League of Revolutionary New Americans

Jerome Scott is a labor organizer and founding member of the League of Revolutionary Black Workers . He is a community organizer, popular educator and author. He was a founding member and former director of Project South: Institute for the Elimination of Poverty & Genocide in Atlanta, GA. He serves on the National Planning Committee of the U.S. Social Forum.
