Pianeta
host
pianeta means planet in portuguese (i'm currently learning portuguese). it hosts vservers:
polaris dns spica mail mintaka apt-cacher betelgeuse puppetmaster bellatrix primary vserver aldebaran http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aldebaran arcturus http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arcturus
the vservers are named after some of the brightest stars in the sky: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_most_luminous_stars
some of these services are available for use by other machines in the colo.
security
security is taken seriously. the vservers sit on top of two layers of encryption and require two separate sysadmins to mount different parts. this means there may be a delay in restoring services in the unlikely case of an unpredicted interruption.
shared services
several services are available to be shared within the colo. these are:
- dns caching service.
- apt-cacher service
vservers
the vservers are set up as follows:
polaris
DNS caching nameserver, running DJBDNS according to http://cr.yp.to/djbdns/run-cache-x.html
spica
mailserver, running exim4
mintaka
apt-cacher: you can connect to this by including the following in your /etc/apt/sources.list:
deb http://mintaka.redetoile.net/debian [distro] [branch(es)] # stock debian deb-src http://mintaka.redetoile.net/debian [distro] [branch(es)] # stock debian source
