= Intern Job Description = May First/People Link (http://mayfirst.org), the progressive Internet organization, seeks two interns for the Fall 2010. We are looking for students interested in combining the principles of openness, transparency, democracy, and free access with the Internet to build stronger political movements in the United States and internationally. May First/People Link is a membership-based Internet organization with over 400 members. Our members are organizations and individuals committed to progressive political change in all issue areas (ranging from health care to immigrants rights to labor, etc) who believe the Internet and all technology should be open, accessible and shared. Candidates must be interested in progressive politics, have extensive user experience with computers and the Internet, be personable, and be available for 10 - 15 hours of work per week, including two afternoons per week in our offices in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Advanced user-level technology skills required - additional technology skills are a plus, but not necessary. Organizing or activist experience a plus. In addition to helping with the day-to-day tasks of the organization, candidates will be responsible for developing and carrying out a project, which could be anything from writing membership profiles to re-designing one of our project web sites, to developing new features for our members. Possible skills development: * Non-profit administration * Grant writing * Proficiency in open source software (such as Linux OS, Open Office, etc.) * Website development (Drupal, php, mysql) * Information systems administration (Apache, webmail, etc.) * Open source media technology (audio, video) * Press and media relations This internship is un-paid.
