#890 assigned Feature/Enhancement Request

Trac generated emails hard to follow

Reported by: https://id.mayfirst.org/jamie Owned by: https://id.mayfirst.org/dkg
Priority: Medium Component: Tech
Keywords: trac email formatting Cc:
Sensitive: no

Description

When trac sends an email notification, sends wiki formatting as the original wiki formatting (in other words, links are not automatically created). This makes it difficult for users who get email notifications to take advantage of links that are provided in the comments. It also has the effect of encouraging commenters to insert entire URLs in the body of comments rather than creating proper wiki links - to ensure that the comment will be properly understood.

I think a short term fix would be to modify the email template to state clearly at the top: please click the ticket link to properly read this ticket.

In the long run, it appears as though a fix has been made for version .12.

The proposed change appears to have been pushed out beyond 0.12 upstream, so i'm not sure that we should expect anything there.

What about a resolution that just simplifies the text of the mail itself?

That link seems to point to an un-resolved ticket about using html formatting to send notifications. Is that the link you meant to paste? Or is there a particular comment that you intended?

  • Owner changed from https://id.mayfirst.org/jamie to https://id.mayfirst.org/dkg
  • Status changed from new to assigned

It looks like there has been some progress made on this front, see http://trac.edgewall.org/ticket/2625#comment:60 . It appears someone has found a work around for trac v12.3+.
