Description

well-- i had a hard drive crash - lost everything. got a new hard drive. i am trying to reconfigure my macmail and i just can't get the mail to send, although - one piece slipped through and sent in the middle of my fiddling - but i don't think i had really changed anything! i've been back and forth back and forth - checking everything - including my spelling Jamie, and it all seems in place. i don't have anything in the IMAP path prefix spot. what should i put there? could it be that? i am working with MAC os 10.4 any ideas?

Can you receive anything?

What are the basic configs you're using?

server -- same for both, right?

port -- 995 (out for pop) and 587 (in)

security (tls out and ssl in is what I usually use)

password authentication (?)

Check on those and see if there's anything amiss and if not give us an idea of what's in those for your preferences.

YES - I'VE TRIED IN POP AND IMAP

CANT FIND TSL - I'VE GOT SSL FOR BOTH

password authentication (?)

YES

NOTHING SEEMS TO BE AMISS THAT I CAN SEE I'VE TRIED TO COPY CORRECTLY FROM YOUR INSTRUCTIONS PAGE - JUST NOT SURE WHAT IT IS WHAT DO YOU MEAN - WHAT CAN I TELL YOU ABOUT MY PREFERENCES - ITS AS ABOVE - except that just now i went to the pop account that i started - though wasn't using - i started both to test. the first time i opened the pop account it imported a bunch of old messages as unopened - having had that trouble before i decided to try an imap - which didn't do that so i was much happier - but i couldn't get either to send - i tried to set the settings according to your very clear instruc tion page -- anyway just now i went into the pop settings to check them as thats what you refered to in your note - and thought maybe i had the outgoing port number wrong there - cause by now i've switched and gone back and forth - first from your instruction sheet and now the ticket - clarifying all my settings that i might be a little dizzy - meanwhile now the sending ring is just spinning and spinning and spinning and spinnging what do i do now - just check back here every now and then?

Hi Jennifer,

Can you try double checking the spelling of malcolm.mayfirst.org in your outgoing email server settings? From the mail logs it appears as though you are successfully logging in to receive mail, so it seems like we just need to get sending working again.

Jennifer, turn the caps off when you address me. All caps is shouting and that means that the above response is you shouting at me specifically which is hurtful personally and disruptive politically. Please keep that in mind? Thanks.

Hi Jennifer - I just looked through the logs and it appears as though you are successfully sending email. Is this still a problem?

I also looked up the ticket opened when you were originally setting up your mailbox and saw in one of the comments that we fixed one aspect by setting the "IMAP Path Prefix" to: INBOX.

Could you try that if you are still having trouble. If it works - would you please post a comment to this ticket spelling out the clicks that you took to set that option (in other words: Click Apple Menu -> Preferences -> Accounts). If this does fix the problem, and you tell us how you did it - then we can add it to the mac mail wiki and then the next person won't have this problem (and you won't have it either if your hard drive crashes again :).
