Question about Website hosting

Description

Hey folks!

We are fairly new to mayfirst - and I am pretty sure we switched our www.southernersonnewground.org domain address over to Mayfirst from GoDaddy.

But I wanted to see if we also switched over our somosgeorgia and wearegeorgia domain names. As they are set to expire on GoDaddy. I am not sure how to go about checking this.

Can you please advise?

Thank YOU!!

Hi Kate!

You can check these domains by going here http://networking.ringofsaturn.com/Tools/whois.php . You'll want to look at the bottom where it says Nameserver:, which should read:

Name Server:a.ns.mayfirst.org
Name Server:b.ns.mayfirst.org

This is where your registrar points to. NOTE: this does not mean that mayfirst controls your domain name. You will still need to renew through godaddy or transfer control of your domain to another registrar. Mayfirst is not a domain registrar, so we don't control your domain.

Let me know if you have other questions,

Oh, btw, it does not look like those other domains point to mayfirst servers.

Hmmm. Thanks ross.

Do you recommend that we renew with GoDaddy or is there someone else we should register these domains to, other groups you recommend above Godaddy??

Also when I clicked on that link i didn't see anythign that said Nameserver ??

Wierd.

Thanks!

Hi Kate,

You have to enter your domains into the search block to see the output that includes Name Server in the link I gave you.

As far as other registrars, I usually recommend gandi.net. Godaddy is dubious at best as a registrar, even Forbes says so, http://www.forbes.com/sites/kellyclay/2012/09/10/5-reasons-you-should-leave-godaddy-and-how/ .

That said, it can be a little complicated to transfer your domain name. So you have to commit to it ;-)
