Description

we have reports from a number of IGC readers that they received blank messages today. No all IGC readers - I use IGC - and my messages were ok.

Mainly readers who are in Los Angeles.

Can we search logs for IGC subscribers and see what results are?

I'm not clear at all about how to go about addressing this problem. Asking jamie to chime in.

Hi all,

I'm not seeing any indication of igc.org mail bouncing.

I did find one bad igc address (<???csea446@IGC.ORG>) - I don't think this alone is the problem, but hosts will downgrade the rating of a server if there are lots of bounces.

If you haven't already - I would suggest asking that the people who don't get the mail to try to figure out how to white list the portside address or otherwise put it in their address book (if they use webmail).

Ross -

I generally count status lines - first the number of sent messages:

0 morales:~# zgrep '@IGC.ORG' /var/log/mail.log.1.gz | grep "status=sent" |wc -l
400
0 morales:~#

Then the number that were not sent:

0 morales:~# zgrep '@IGC.ORG' /var/log/mail.log.1.gz | grep "status=" | grep -v "status=sent" |wc -l
0
0 morales:~#

A few notes:

  • listserv converts all domains to capitals, so you either need to grep for the capitalized version of the domain or use -i to make it case-insensitive (I think -i is slower).
  • I iterate over the most recent logs, using zgrep instead of grep for the logs that are gzipped

Thanks. Removed the 446 email address - this was on the Portside Labor list.
