#6194 assigned Question/How do I...?

Roundcube: addressbook distribution lists?

Description

I just noticed roundcube and am interested in many of its features. There are a couple of things I don't see though. The main thing is that I don't see any way to set up filters. I have many of them in horde so that a lot of mail goes directly to a folder for later viewing--like Portside and other lists that I get in hugh quanities and only occasionally need to check. So is there a way to set up filters in roundcube?

The other thing is the address book. In horde I have a number of distribution lists defined for all of the Brecht's committees and working groups. Are these groups transferred into roundcube and, if so, how do I find them?

Thanks, Liz

I don't think the distribution lists were transferred from horde; the tool we used to import addressbooks only knows how to import individual addresses.

arguably, for large distribution lists, a mail user agent (like horde, thunderbird, or roundcube) isn't the right tool for the job; you'd want a list manager mailman or sympa to handle bounces, etc.

That said, we could probably look into modifying the import scripts to import distribution lists if that's something that's blocking you from transitioning off of horde (and that's something you want to do).

As for filtering, i think the best way to handle this technologically is to use something like sieve on the server side and the manageseive roundcube plugin; but i'm not sure if we have sieve available. One advantage of settling on sieve as a mail filtering technique is that multiple mail user agents could interact with the same set of filters, which would facilitate changing between MUAs should people want to do that.

I'm wondering if this shouldn't be broken out into multiple tickets, given that the two above requests seem pretty independent to me.

Sieve does sound like a reasonable thing to implement, and I don't see many more options as far as roundcube goes. Should we undertake it's implementation? I'm assigning this to you dkg, but I'm happy to help implement sieve, if you think it's feasible.

  • Keywords addressbook added; sieve removed
  • Summary changed from Roundcube: filters and addressbook distribution lists? to Roundcube: addressbook distribution lists?

#6202 now covers the sieve implementation, so i'm breaking that piece off from this ticket and focussing here on the addressbook distribution list import.
