Help with DNS - split web & email?

Can I repoint dns to mayfirst's dns servers, but leave my MX records pointing where they are? This isn't super important, but my current mail system works, and I'm not paying extra where it is parked.

My domain is My registrar is Network Solutions. I currently have web forwarding, which I just repointed to the mayfirst site (I moved files, already). That seems to be working, for now. My email is currently hosted by Verizon, mx servers: and

Hi knutdav,

Yes you can easily do this, just point the mx record from to the correct ip address and you should be good to go.

Sorry, I just don't want to screw this up, and have my email down for a while until we straighten it out.

The place I see to control DNS through the Control Panel is:

I see an mx record there, which points to: So I should edit this to: and leave the IP Address blank?

Verizon provides a second mx server: I suppose this is backup. Can I not put this in, or can I create a "new" DNS record of type "mx" on the Control Panel, and point it to this server?

After I do this, I just go to Network Solutions and repoint my name servers to:

Is that correct?

Again, sorry to be picky, it's just that I have a large volume on this email account, and I don't want it to be "down" for a while. Thanks.

Not sure how I'm supposed to handle the "action" section. "Leave as assigned" didn't seem to work. Need clarification of original answer, as noted above. If this doesn't work, I'll try opening a new ticket.
