#5565 closed Bug/Something is broken (fixed)

chown directories to contractor's account

Reported by: Ken Montenegro Owned by: Jamie McClelland
Priority: Urgent Component: Tech
Keywords: user-permissions Cc:
Sensitive: no

Description

we would like to have the directories in /home/members/apalc/sites/advancingjustice-la.org/ chown -R trestledidthis .

the account trestledidthis is managing our drupal install and the current ownership of that directory, account apalctrestle, should be transfered to trestledidthis.

the domain impacted by this is, of course, advancingjustice-la.org.

thank you.

This is related to ticket #5538. I'm not exactly sure how to give you the functionality you want here. I can chown the directories, but I'm not certain how to make sure the user you want to run processes switches to the new user. In the future, it's much easier if you create files and manage your website with the user created when you generate your hosting order.

I'm assigning this to jamie who will have a better sense of how to accomplish what you need.

As Ross suggests, providing your consultant access to the apalctrestle user account is the preferred method for achieving your goals. If you don't want your consultant to have access to the control panel:

  • login as the apalcweb user (which as access to your entire membership)
  • click the hosting order in question
  • click the Hosting Order Access tab
  • delete the apalctrestle user login

If there is another reason we don't understand for needing to change the ownership of the files, please re-open the ticket and let us know.

Thanks!

jamie

Thanks Jaime. I'm going to delete the apalctrestle user so that the contractor's account inherits all rights.

Again, thanks MayFirst crew!

couldn't delete the apalctrestle user. please advise. see attachment with error message of: "This user account is being used in another service. Please check all the service tabs and delete any corresponding records first."

thanks.

It looks like you tried to delete the user account itself; jamie was suggesting that you remove it from the "hosting order access" tab, not delete the account entirely.

Can you try choosing the "hosting order access" tab first and removing it from there?

I just attached a file that has our contractor's requests or issues with the current directory and/or permission structure.

They don't need access to the apalc.net structure.

Thanks.
