Description

hello,

I'm trying to see if I can use mayfirst webmail directly instead of syncing or using an email client, but I'm having difficulties...

First, is there a more thorough instructions/help document for how to use it and all the features? And I'm having difficulty finding things with the regular "help" in the program itself and it seems to be specific to just whatever category i'm in at the time, and even then, all the things I'm looking for dont' show up...

1) it seems mail is threading emails together that don't belong together at all... not even the same subject title or anything...

2) I found once in the help a section on vacation settings, but I can't find it now and the autoresponder from the control panel isn't working at all

3) in the "global options" there seems to be a section to edit "rich text formatting" options, but I don't understand what any of them mean...

4) what is the "webmail" category within the program about/for itself? i don't understand the "mail" vs. "webmail" within it when I'm already in a webmail program.

5) i had my email address imap-synced with a gmail account for now (which i want to get out of), and it's set so sent messages are still sent through mmy mayfirst.org account, but they're still not showing up in my mayfirst webmail... is there no way for me to fix that or get those to re-show?

I have more questions... please let me now if there's a more thorough instructions I can refer to... thanks peace :)

We do recommend using an email client like thunderbird for email as it is a much more secure way to use email. The reality is that Horde, our email client, is sometimes difficult to navigate. We are in the process of improving this.

First, is there a more thorough instructions/help document for how to use it and all the features? This is frustrating, I agree, but it's currently the best we have in terms of direct help. You might find this video useful http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8xPhVKJGmM

1) it seems mail is threading emails together that don't belong together at all... not even the same subject title or anything...

I've no idea why this would be happening. Could you be threading by date and not email? I'm really not sure.

2) I found once in the help a section on vacation settings, but I can't find it now and the autoresponder from the control panel isn't working at all

The auto responder works from the control panel. It looks like you've set it up for the wrong user. You'll need to set it up for each user account that has an email address attached to it, i.e. microcosm, jb_microcosmpersonal etc.

3) in the "global options" there seems to be a section to edit "rich text formatting" options, but I don't understand what any of them mean...

I'm not sure you will need to modify these settings. Can you tell me what you want to achieve by doing so?

4) what is the "webmail" category within the program about/for itself? i don't understand the "mail" vs. "webmail" within it when I'm already in a webmail program.

You don't need to worry about this distinction. I think it's simply a convention used by the Horde program. "Webmail" is simply the top most level of interaction, basically it's the homepage of webmail.

5) i had my email address imap-synced with a gmail account for now (which i want to get out of), and it's set so sent messages are still sent through mmy mayfirst.org account, but they're still not showing up in my mayfirst webmail... is there no way for me to fix that or get those to re-show?

I don't think we can accomplish this, though you may be able to create a new folder in your webmail configuration, then see if google sees that folder and copy your sent messages there. I've never used gmail, so I'm not completely certain.

I have more questions... please let me now if there's a more thorough instructions I can refer to... thanks

There are a number of guides on Horde out there. You can simply search for Horde how to and find examples. Also we have a few FAQs on webmail https://support.mayfirst.org/wiki/faq . Soon we do plan to offer a more user friendly webmail experience.

hope this helps,

I did try the autoresponder from the control panel and it didn't work ( i did a separate ticket regarding this)

I have more than one email address for my own user account... it seems that there is no way to do an autoresponder for each email address??

I need to know enough about the webmail interface so that I can function if I'm not at my own computer...

thanks peace

I'm looking at the control panel, and you don't have an email address associated with the juliebrown user, but you only have an auto responder set up as that user. In order for the auto-responder to work, you'll need to add it to the accounts that have an email address associated with them. You can edit user accounts here:

Oh I see what you're saying..... I've never signed into mayfirst with the other user names you're referring to before, I actually thought they were only EMAIL usernames. I created all of them while being logged into the control panel as juliebrown, just creating them in the Email section only for email specifically. I've only logged into webmail with them before. I just tried my webmail username and password to sign into the control panel and it worked, so now I understand what you're saying.

Thanks
