#5527 closed Bug/Something is broken (fixed)

irc.mayfirst.org defaults to the #ussf channel

Reported by: Stephen Mahood Owned by: Jamie McClelland
Priority: Medium Component: Tech
Keywords: irc.mayfirst.org Cc:
Sensitive: no

Description

This is specific to when you type in irc.mayfirst.org into the web browser the channel section is grayed out so one cannot change the channel they connect.
The default channel at this point is #ussf and not #mayfirst

Can this be changed?

Hi marxistvegan,

Good looking out. I didn't even know this url existed, but I've changed it to default to #mayfirst which makes sense to me. I'm not sure how to allow for channel switching, because I don't understand the perl magic that's making this irc client work. I'm passing this over to jamie in case he wants to enable that feature.

Thanks for catching the #ussf - that must have been a one time change for a particular IRC meeting.

I'm inclined to leave it hard coded to #mayfirst. If people want a generic irc client for connecting to indymedia, they can go to:

https://irc.indymedia.nl/

Or, they can join #mayfirst and then switch to a different channel. I'd rather have less options than more options when helping people connecting to our IRC channel.

Open to counter-arguments, in the meantime closing....
