#5379 closed Feature/Enhancement Request (fixed)

translation of web apps and tools

Reported by: https://id.mayfirst.org/malloryk Owned by: https://id.mayfirst.org/ross

Description

Web apps like Drupal (Wordpress) and mailman should reflect our principled commitment to bilingual communication.

For Drupal, this means putting a simple .po file in the core directory so that people can install Drupal in Spanish natively.

For mailman, this solution is unknown but perhaps the platform itself is translatable on our servers as-is or maybe we need to install mailman in Spanish on another server, controlling where lists are hosted through red.

Mallory, do you have a link to the .po file that should be done for drupal (and a link to instructions and/or an explanation of the process)?

Separate tickets for each web app might make this sort of task-set more manageable and distributable across people with different skill sets, interests, and spare time.

You can set additional languages to mailman with:

dpkg-reconfigure mailman

My understanding is that the preferred way to get Drupal translations is through Drupal's translation service. I also imagine we should make multiple languages available during the Drupal install via an install profile, either a custom one or something like the Localized Drupal Distribution.

Yes, and this should be an option in the control panel, i.e. red.

I just ran dpkg-reconfigure mailman on both leslie and assata and ensured that both english and spanish are available with english as the default.

I think this is reasonably accomplished.
