Description

A few of us at Paper Tiger are having difficulty figuring out how to reset our personal settings so that it is the way we want it. We have tried many different configurations and can't seem to get it to list our email address in the from column in the inbox- so that for example when I send an email it shows maria@… in the inbox ( which is is set up to do now AND when I click in the it message shows from maria@… <Maria Juliana Byck> right now it shows maria@… <maria@…> which does not make sense and I can't seem to change. I do want maria@… to show up in people's email since that way they will immediately know where I am writing from if they don't recognize my name. This is important because I send out lots of emails for papertiger from my personal address.

Also it seems that when I send an email to my yahoo account it goes directly into spam- which it did not do before we changed to the new email? This is also a problem of course.

Is there a way to have the address book in the toolbar of the inbox?

Hi Maria,

Replying to maria@papertiger.org:

A few of us at Paper Tiger are having difficulty figuring out how to reset our personal settings so that it is the way we want it.

I think you are saying that when you send a message to yourself, and you see that message listed in your inbox, the From column reads:

To: maria@papertiger.org

However, when you open the message, the from address says:

maria@papertiger.org <maria@papertiger.org>

and you want it to say

Maria Byck <maria@papertiger.org

The reason it shows you two different things is because, when you send yourself an email address, the From column in your inbox actually shows you the To: value of the email (since it's from you, the program figures it's more useful to show you who it is to, not from). When you open the message, you can see the from address.

I think the solution to your problem is to follow the directions for setting your identity. In addition to setting your email address, be sure to set your name as well.

Then, send yourself a message and, when you open it, see if the from address appears as you want it.

Let us know if this works!

Also it seems that when I send an email to my yahoo account it goes directly into spam- which it did not do before we changed to the new email? This is also a problem of course.

This is a major problem. Would you please email Yahoo support to complain? Unfortunately, we cannot stop them from censoring us! In your email ask them why the decided that the message as junk email. If they report anything that we can change, we'll change it. But unfortunately it's often hard to get them to tell us why they are trashing legitimate email.

I would also recommend that you ask Yahoo how to white list all emails from papertiger.org.

Yes - that's a great suggestion (and an oversite on our part). I just put it in there - you may need to logout and log back in to see it.

Hi thanks for the response. Pain about the yahoo stuff. Great about the addressbook in inbox toolbar. Would it be just as easy to put a link back to inbox in the addressbook toolbar? (that would be useful to me).

so for the identity stuff I did play around with this for quite a while sending test emails back and forth with another person to both our mayfirst email and outside account emails to try and figure it out.

We want the from in the inbox to whomever we send the email to say maria@…- not our name since that is not always recognized. (currently when I send it to my yahoo account it says from Maria Juliana Byck and not from maria@… as I have set it up to do in my personal options area under

Your From: address: I have put maria@…

And then when the message is open it would be great if it could say from Maria Juliana Byck <maria@… (if anything) but right now it seems that if it says maria@… in the inbox then there is no way for it to say Maria Juliana Byck in the heading of the actual message only maria@…<maria@…>? This might be the way it has to be but I just thought to see if there was a way to set it up as I had it before?

Sorry if this is confusing I am getting muddled myself: the main thing is the from to read maria@… so that people see my organization and not my name when getting an email from me in their inbox.

It should be there already - are you not seeing it? It says "Mail" (not Inbox).

And then when the message is open it would be great if it could say from Maria Juliana Byck <maria@… (if anything) but right now it seems that if it says maria@… in the inbox then there is no way for it to say Maria Juliana Byck in the heading of the actual message only maria@…<maria@…>? Unfortunately, we can't control how Yahoo will display the message :(. And, for that matter, we can't control how any program will display any message.

We can, however, control how the message is written before it is sent out. Every message has a "From" field. This is the field typically used by programs when displaying who a message was sent by. With Horde, if you fill out the "Your full name" and the "Your email address" parts of your default identity, they will be combined and placed in the From field when your message is sent. If you leave out the "Your full name:" then only your email address will be put in the From field. If you want, you could put "Paper Tiger" in the "Your full name" field and then it would display Paper Tiger instead of your name.

Does this make sense?
