Certificate issues

Description

Dear May1st tech support,

I wonder if you can help me. You are the email server for Autonomedia. In the past few days I have been getting many "certificate" messages when I try to send email. The message says that the "certificate for this server was signed by an unknown certifying authority" and that I may be connecting to a server that is "pretending to be chavez.mayfirst.org." I have to click "connect anyway" in order to send my email. This is not only an inconvenience, but is somewhat troubling. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks for your quick response.

Thanks for posting to the ticket system Lewanne!

We definitely would like to solve this problem. Can you tell us whether you are sending email from our webmail system or from a different program (like Thunderbird)?

Also - to respond to this ticket - you will need to login by clicking the login link. You can use the same username/password combo that you use when you check your email.

Thanks!

Jamie

I encountered the problem when sending email from the apple mail program, not when logged into the webmail system.

Thanks Lewanne. Can you compare your Mac email settings with the settings listed here: on our help page and let us know if there are any differences between what you have and what we have? In particular, please check the outgoing mail server setting.

The outgoing mail server is set to chavez.mayfirst.org, the outgoing mail server is, however, set to port number 995. Should I change that?

Yes. The incoming port number should be 995, however, the outgoing port number should be 587.

I don't know how to tell the difference. In applemail, preferences:accounts:advanced there is only a "Check with your system administrator before chaning any of the advanced options below: Port (here's where it says 995) Then there's a check in front of "Use SSL" Then it says Authenticaion: Password

I don't see any "incoming" or "outgoing."

have you looked at the end of the MF/PL instructions for the Mac Mail.app? They seem to suggest that there is a way to "click on Server Settings" to edit the outgoing settings. I don't know if you've got the same version of Mac OS or Mail.app as that shows. And i don't have a Mac to test it on, so i'm not sure if this will be correct or helpful to you.
