problems setting up email account

Dear Support,

Following up once again - do you have anymore suggestions or ideas why I'm having trouble setting up this email account? I tried setting up again from scratch (deleting user account, etc. from MayFirst and email from Outlook then re-entering)without any luck. Again, the settings are the same for our other email accounts, which are working fine.

Hi Jamie,

I downloaded updates for Outlook and I tried entering 465 for the outgoing server but got this error message:

Send test e-mail message: The operation timed out waiting for a response from the sending (SMTP) server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).

Our other email accounts use 587 and there doesn't seem to be a problem - just with this intern email account. Do you have any other suggestions?

Hi Jean,

Woops - it looks like you included your password in this ticket (which is a public space). I just edited out the password, however, should probably change it to a new one to be safe.

As for your problem, I have a few suggestions - one is to go to http://update.microsoft.com/ to make sure you have the latest updates installed for Outlook. I've seen similar errors on computers that didn't have a fully patched version of Outlook.

The other suggestion is to try using port 465 for your outgoing server. Some versions of Outlook are not able to use the more widely used port 587.

Hi Jean, I'm going to close this ticket and follow up on ticket:

You can post a comment to an existing ticket - but you have to login to the support web site first to do that (you can login by going to the web site and clicking the login link).

Another advantage of logging in is that, once you login, you can click the View Tickets link and easily see all the tickets that you've submitted (but that only works if you login first!).
