Description

Hi there,

I was wondering if you could implement Dimp (http://www.horde.org/dimp/) on your servers? It would be great to have a modern webmail interface, and my understanding is that it's not very much work to set up and maintain past regular iMP. I know you all are pressed for time, but if you'd be willing to take the time to set it up (should be pretty quick) I'd happily beta test it, and if it turns out that there's any sort of time-intensive bugs, we can drop it. If it works fine off the bat, it can get rolled out further.

Note that ticket #457 implies that you may have to undo a change you made to a config file for it to work.

Sounds good. I just upgraded the dev version of our webmail to the most recent versions and added dimp. You can check it out here:

https://webmail.dev.mayfirst.org

You'll get a bunch of tls errors (because the ssl certificate is for http://webmail.mayfirst.org).

But it should give you an opportunity to try it out. Let us know how it goes!

What is the next step for this? Do you want my feedback? If I'm the only person using this, are you willing to grant me privileges to make modifications (or at least view) the DiMP pref file?

Anyway...I keep forgetting to use it, but when I do, I like the new features. However, there's some tweaking that needs doing. For instance, there's no way to hide deleted IMAP messages. I first thought that imp/config/prefs.php had "delhide" selected, wich would give that symptom, but traditional iMP doesn't have that problem, and I thought DiMP shares iMP's settings.

Also, if you wanted to roll this out, you may want to decide not to offer the "portal mode", since it's confusing, though potentially powerful. It's a portal in the dot-com era sense, a "start page" for your internet that shows an overview of unread messages, personalized weather/stocks/horoscope/etc.

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback - I think that's the next step :). I just gave you ssh access to horde-staging@stallman.mayfirst.org (fingerprint: dd:31:58:73:a0:e1:de:9e:53:2b:f8:53:78:58:3c:71). That user has a symlink called horde-staging which will take you to the root of the directory containing the source and configuration files. That would be tremendously helpful if you could tweak the settings (hiding deleted IMAP messages does seem critical, and hiding portal mode also makes sense to me).

Once you have them down, I can copy to the live site and we'll be ready to go.

There appears to be some difference between the live site and staging site's settings. Can we either a) copy the live site settings (for iMP) to the staging site, or b) make them available to me somehow so I can diff them?

The staging site currently is running a more recent version of horde - so there may be minor changes in the configs. I'm hoping that we can update the live site to the new version of horde (and friends) and introduce dimp all in one go.

You can access the settings for the live site in /usr/local/share/horde-live/imp/config/conf.php.

Thanks for the help!

Hi - How are things going with the Dimp exploration?

It looks like there are a few updates to Horde that I'd like to drop into the dev site - but I wanted to check in with you first.

And - if those updates work ok, I'd like to push them to the live webmail site.

If you think dimp is not ready, we can push these updates to the live site without enabling dimp - but I wanted to check with you to see what you think.

Hi Jamie,

I got caught up/overwhelmed with the differences between the two configurations. I do NOT think Dimp is ready yet - but if you update the live site, that should simplify the job of bringing Dimp to readiness.

Ok - thanks. I'll probably work on this tomorrow or the next day.

Arg - I'm so behind!

I just finished the upgrade. Now, both the dev site and the live site are running the most recent versions of horde and all related applications.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do to help with the dimp testing.

Thanks!!
