You've created the emails you need on your new site? That's the thing most people forget.

Do you have emails that use this domain?

ah got it. yes, we have 2 listserves that uses this domain name. will i have to make changes for these too?

Are listservs the same as mailman lists? Are you moving them over to us? If so, you'll need to go through the procedures involved in list creation, etc. But am I understanding that you guys have *no* email addresses tagged to this domain?

Can I call somebody on this stuff? Email me at alfredo@… with a name and number if that's the case?

That's great to hear that you are moving the site over.

You might find our faq on transferring your site useful.

The main issue Alfredo is trying to figure out is what other services are using your domain name.

If you switch control of your domain name to MFPL, your new web site will run great.

However, unless we set them up first, other services might break. So, if anyone has an @freeexpression.org email address or email list, you will want to set those up on MFPL servers first before switching the domain, so they continue uninterrupted.

Alternatively - if you really need to keep the launch date of tomorrow - you could simply change the DNS record with verio for www.freeexpression.org and freeexpresion.org to the MFPL IP address (209.51.172.13).

BTW, our how-tos page is very very extensive (all member produced) so most questions are answered there.

sorry to bother again, but i talked with our site administrator and he said the way he's got it set up, we don't need to mess with the dns. all he needs is the new ip address and he can take care of the rest- that our lists won't be effected. so i just want to confirm that this is the MFPL IP address (209.51.172.13) i should be giving him. thanks.

Yes - that's the IP address.

Can you be sure to have configured the web server to expect FreeExpression.org and www.FreeExpression.org

we'll be switching over on monday night.

comment:14 Changed 10 years ago by https://id.mayfirst.org/fen

hi there. we just switched over IP addresses so that folks are redirected to the new site at mayfirst. change you change your server so things STAY at

www.FreeExpression.org

and not re-direct to

fen.mayfirst.org?

comment:15 Changed 10 years ago by Jamie McClelland

Looks like that is set in your wordpress .htaccess file. I think if you edit that file it should take care of the problem.
