Hi Jamila , this is the 2nd heads up we've gotten about UCEProtect this week, what they've done actually is to flag an entire block of ip numbers whose routes are announced by our provider Hurricane Electric. Digging deeper we can see that the actual problem ip's don't actually correspond to ip numbers used by May First or any of our members. We contacted Hurricane Electric and received the following answer.

Hello, Jamie,

Unfortunately, no. Their complaints are based entirely on the actions of a single customer of ours, whose behavior is not malicious but is being mistaken as such. We have tried explaining, but to no avail.

Fortunately, UCEProtect is a particularly disreputable service, with an exploitative pay-for-removal system, and few email providers use it.

So it seems that UCEProtect are really acting as thugs in this situation, they have on questionable grounds taken issue with one of HE's clients and have decided to punish all of us in order to apply pressure and get paid. That qualifies as extortion in my book.

At least from HE's perspective UCEProtect is not a reputable service that we should be worried about.

As far as I've understood our only technical solution would be to setup our own router and announce our own IP's which is work we are not in a position to take on right now.

Copying jamie here to confirm or correct anything I've said so far.

Dang, that's annoying! That says to me I can remove UCEProtect from my list of spam lists that I check.
