#15003 assigned Question/How do I...?

"Enter E2E Passphrase" on NextCloud Sync Client Software

Reported by: Highlander Center Owned by: JaimeV

Sensitive: no

Description

Hey yall,

We keep getting this error message on one of our staff's NextCloud Sync Client on their laptop.

The message is requesting for a E2E pass phrase.

We have searched your forums and found some information about this but we still can not get this to go away.

Could this be that we are entering the wrong password? Is it the MFPL User pass phrase or a separate pass phrase created when setting up the sync client?

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

In Solidarity,

Highlander

Hi, the E2E password is not your May First account password. It it something you can optionally setup when you install your NextCloud client if you want to use end to end encryption for your documents. https://nextcloud.com/endtoend/

You don't have to use end to end encryption, but if you do turn it on and set a password you will have to enter that password anytime you want to access encrypted documents. This is not a password we can reset for you.

You should still have access the rest of your documents and NextCloud resources without the E2E password. If the desktop client is not letting you do this try accessing directly through our web interface https://share.mayfirst.org

Thanks for raising this issue. I've been having it persistently too. I don't have an option in my client (Linux 2.6.4) to disable E2E encryption, and every time the computer connects to the internet, the dialog comes up. (Just clicking "cancel" makes it go away.)

Is the e2e encryption app enabled on the server? https://help.nextcloud.com/t/end-to-end-encryption/73919
