Description

Hi friends,

I'm setting up an email client to be able to send and receive from the domain/acct vp@….

I'd like to verify where I can find the correct settings to get this email functioning. Below is what I think we need, can you share where I can find it in my control panel or what the answer is if you know? Thank you!

SMTP server (full path)

Username (as expected by server, e.g. wes@… or vp@… or wes@… or whatever)

Any other necessary SSL/OAuth/port info

Change History (4)

Hi, sorry for the delay in response.

So it looks like you've configured this address vp@… is currently configured to forward to another address wes@…

You can see that here: https://members.mayfirst.org/cp/index.php?area=hosting_order&service_id=2&hosting_order_id=1002464

That domain, wescarroll.com isn't hosted with us but presumably as long as you can receive mail there it should be working.. Most e-mail clients/apps will allow you to configure an alternate sending address header so that you could send mail as vp@… from your other account.

Alternatively you could change the configuration of this address to deliver to a user hosted under MFPL.

Thanks, he wants to set up his email client to be able to 'send as vp@' like you mentioned, and I'm looking for the right SMTP server path and ssl port info to do this. Can you share that or point me in the direction of where that info lives?

To clarify you haven't associated that address with a real May First user login. You are just forwarding it to another server. So the details you are asking for don't apply.

Now, you don't actually need to connect to MFPL servers to send mail as that address. Most e-mail clients will allow you to just add that as another sending address. You could continue using whatever smtp server is currently configured to send mail for wes@… The client just changes the sender header. You may have to worry about setting up an SPF record that allows mail other servers to know that mail from the smtp server used by wescarroll.com is allowed to send mail for the bayareatutoringsummit.com domain. https://support.mayfirst.org/wiki/faq/email/add-spf-record

On the other hand, if you decide you do want to send mail as vp@… directly via May First smtp servers you need to first associate that address with a real user login on MFPL servers. Then you could use that user and password credentials to send mail via the mail.mayfirst.org smtp server following these instructions. https://support.mayfirst.org/wiki/faq/email/configure-email

If you are going the above route then it would probably make sense to stop forwarding the mail and just login directly via imap to receive mail with the user login you've associated with that address using the instructions linked above as well.

Thanks so much, this is helpful and I appreciate being taken through the steps. I set the email in question to deliver to a user hosted under MFPL and sent the host & port info to this person so they can set up an imap acct. I think that should do it and if we get stuck i'll re-open this ticket. Thank you!
