Ability to send mail as forwarded address

Hi MayFirst,

With a forwarding email address, is it possible to configure the email account to send as the forwarding address?

For example, if I have clayton@… forwarding to clayton@… then I want to be able to respond to messages have the sent from address still be clayton@…

I searched through the wiki and wasn't able to find something. Happy to write up some documentation if this is in fact possible.

Hi clayton. So assigning the sending address to an e-mail is actually more of a function of the e-mail client. Most clients will allow you to add additional addresses or identities from which you can still send mail as an authenticated user through smtp servers.

For example, you can edit the default address and add additional addresses by following these instructions for roundcube and horde.

Yeah this person was trying to set up sending from their gmail account, but gmail prompts for a password. I'm assuming then that they need their email account with mayfirst to be a full on email account, not just a forwarding alias in order to do that. Am I understanding that right?

Yeah with gmail it may be necessary to actually add the mayfirst smtp account credentials in order to send mail from that address as you are essentially using gmail as your e-mail client so it means giving google the password to your account.
