Description

The trusty command:

tar -zcvf compressFileName.tar.gz folderToCompress

fails on my website. How can I make a backup of my site so I can store it locally, just in case?

Can you copy and paste the command and error? That command should work just fine.

Hi rdale - our setup means that all home directories are only accessible by the user who owns the directory. That means that the rdale user can't read the arodriquez user's home directory, so can't back it up.

You can fully backup your cgi-bin, include and web directories though.

But to backup the arodriquez directory you will have to login as arodriquez.
