More progress on why monkeysphere commands take so long on linda - it seems to be that any su command takes at least 5 - 10 seconds to complete.

So, I suspect it's not monkeyshere, but monkeysphere's use of su that is slowing things down.

I figured it out - I removed the package libpam-systemd:amd64 and now it works smoothly.

After reading countless blog posts, many suggested pam as the culprit so I compared pam packages on linda with other servers.

erica is installed but I have not yet gotten to the stage of pushing puppet changes.

In process of sorting out puppet.

One manually intervention was required:

Puppet includes the error: "Notice: /Stage[main]/Mayfirst::M_minimal/M_monkeysphere::Auth_capable_user[root]/Exec[monkeysphere-gen-subkey-root]/returns: No secret keys found."

But there is a root gpg key. When I run the intended command manually (/usr/bin/monkeysphere gen-subkey) I'm prompted to enter a passphrase (I just hit enter because there is no passphrase).

Now erica can run puppet with no errors and all services are reporting as running.

Next step: fix red/php errors when I run red-node-update:

0 erica:/usr/local/share/red# red-node-update

It looks like I will have to upgrade red to use the PDO method of database access.

red can now be run on stretch. The next step is to install a hosting order on erica.mayfirst.org and test to ensure everything works properly.

  • Owner set to https://id.mayfirst.org/jaimev
  • Status changed from new to assigned

This now fully tested. I created a test hosting order and (after tweaking red a bit more) was able to successfully test:

  • SSH in as the user
  • Setup web site with both html and php scripts
  • Create and login to mysql db with mysql user
  • create email address and send and receive email

I'm re-assigning to you Jaime - unless there is anything else you think we should test, I propose that we set this to the new "accepting" MOSH so we can see how things work.

Then, the next step will be to take Marcus up on offer to be first upgraded MOSH.

  • Resolution set to fixed
  • Status changed from assigned to closed
