#13214 assigned Question/How do I...?

Locating MySQL database username and password

Description

Dear mayfirst,

I'm trying to locate the MySQL database username and password in order to access phpMyAdmin for a Wordpress site. I referenced your wiki page on finding database usernames and passwords https://support.mayfirst.org/wiki/database_password, and even exposed hidden files on WinSCP, but could not find the .my.cnf file which, according to your page, contains the info I'm looking for.

Am I missing something?

I greatly appreciate any help!

Thanks,

Kris

Hi Kris - I'm sorry you came across some dated support info! I just updated the page: https://support.mayfirst.org/wiki/database_password

We no longer create a .my.cnf file for you (or store you password in plain text).

However, the page is updated to give directions on how to find this info if you are running a WordPress or Drupal site.

If you are not running either - you can also change your password to something new via the members control panel - but it might break any application that has this info hard-coded.
