Hello:

We would like to set up www2.gvshp.org and then point that to another website that will be managing our letter writing and advocacy campaigns. Please let me know what steps I should take. Thank you.

Yes I believe that from the hosting order for gvshp.org in the DNS tab, you can add a new a type record pointing www2.gvshp.org to the ip address of the server where the destination site is hosted. https://support.mayfirst.org/wiki/add_new_domain_to_existing_account

If the destination website is also hosted in MFPL you can add that domain as a ServerAlias to the existing web configuration.

Thanks, I was able to follow all steps to set up a new DNS a record, but when I submit full domain name www2.gvshp.org it gives me the following error: Domains cannot have an underscore in them.

I just tried creating a new DNS record for www2.gvshp.org pointing to 209.51.172.13 and I did not receive an error. You can edit this entry here and point it to the ip number you desire.

Thank you. I have tried pointing it to the site we need it pointed to, which is gvshp-live.convio.net but cannot figure out how to do so. I called network solutions and they said it would be done with you. Thanks.

I don't think you can point this domain to another website but to an ip address and I believe you want an a type record not an mx record.

I think I need a more detailed explanation of what you ultimately want to achieve so that I can be of more help.

Do you want to visit www2.gvshp.org and have it automaticlaly forward to the site at gvshp-live.convio.net ?

Do you want to visit www2.gvshp.org and have that domain remain in the browser URL window but still see the site at gvshp-live.convio.net ?

What should we see at gvshp-live.convio.net? Right now it seems like a placeholder.

Where is this site hosted?

What tools are available to you on that end?

Are you able to list the different aliases/domains that the website should respond to there?

Thanks. We want it pointed to a page that will be hosting our advocacy letters, so people will see www2.gvshp.org in their browser but will be on this site: gvshp-live.convio.net which is a placeholder for our action pages, http://gvshp.convio.net/Action_Center or http://gvshp.convio.net/site/PageServer?pagename=Action_Center

That site is a blackbaud site.

I've looked up the ip number of the server where gvshp-live.convio.net is hosted and pointed the DNS entry for www2.gvshp.org there. You should allow some time for the new DNS entry to propagate. You will also need to somehow have the new site server respond to the correct domain when requests arrive there. I am not familiar with blackbaud and don't know how it works internally.

After some searching the following seem like interesting leads:

Step 5 from this site https://www.kb.blackbaud.com/articles/Article/74484

or maybe these instructions:
