What ftp client are you using? I do see several failed attempts to login in the logs because of incorrect password. Can you try changing your password?

I changed the password some weeks back. Now it works for the control panel, the mayfirst website, but not for SFTP with Fetch, which does work fine for various other sites and has for years and years. So I changed the password today. The latest password also works for the control panel, but not for SFTP. Yes, what it tells me is that the name or host or password is wrong, but it's hard to see how it actually can be.

Is fetch by any chance caching your previous password? Is it actively asking you for the new password when you attempt to connect? I would also try another sftp client to compare. Have you tried cyberduck ?

Fetch has worked fine for many years, and for whatever reason it just worked now. This has happened before where it seems necessary to just wait a long time and then it will work.

It is again not working now.

I'm really not sure why this is the case. Can you give me the approximate times you are attempting to connect?

Well, just before I posted that. And I will try again right now.
