#120 closed Question/How do I...? (duplicate)

Are postgresql databases available to MFPL members?

I have several webapp projects for clients that use PostgreSQL for database backends. Does MFPL offer postgres databases for regular members? If so, how would i set one up for a client? How would i access it?

This request is, quite literally, the first time someone has asked for postgreSQL. I don't have any problems with offering it, other than my total lack of knowledge of how to admin a postgreSQL database.

The way we currently dole out mysql database is via the /usr/local/bin/mf-mysql-{drop,create} scripts. Very simple scripts.

If we wanted to add postgresql support - we could add it to our Configure new server page? and create mf-postgres-{drop,create} scripts.

Even better... I understand that postgres has alternative authentication options. Can we tell postgres to authenticate with people's existing passwd/shadow accounts (via pam or saslauth - which is already running)? That would be great.
