Migrate Website from Joomla to Wordpress

Description

Our organization is hoping to migrate our website (domesticworkersunited.org) from Joomla to Wordpress, and want to understand the process on the sever end. Migrating the content seems simple (using the FG Joomla to Wordpress plugin), but since we would like to continue hosting our site on mayfirst/people link, we have a few logistical questions. 1.) Can we continue using the Mayfirst server with a wordpress site? How does that process happen? Especially since it looks like you need to set up your destination website on wordpress before migrating the content off Joomla, and most help sites I have read assume you will be hosting the new site on a different server. 2.) What happen to the data in our SQLite database in this migration? Do the databases transfer to wordpress automatically in the migration? Thanks, K

I would suggest first creating a new hosting order from your existing control panel.

https://support.mayfirst.org/wiki/faq/site-management/create-hosting-order

You can access the new hosting order via sftp and create a new database for your wordpress site. https://support.mayfirst.org/wiki/faq/files/sftp https://support.mayfirst.org/wiki/faq/wordpress/WordPressInstall

You can leave your existing site and database intact until you have completed the migration successfully. From the description it would seeem the plugin you plan on using will migrate all relative information from your old database to wordpress but I do not have direct experience with this.

Let me know if you need any additional help with this process.

Jaime
