Description

i'm trying to set up user accounts for 2 of my employees. i would like for their emails to simply be their first names (scott and matt). when i try to set them up i get a announcement that those logins are already being used even though they are not on our list of current user accounts. can you help with this? thanks

When I first started doing this work (longgg time ago), Andy, this is one of the things that would drive me cracy; couldn't figure out why this was. :-)

Because you can't have more than one instance of any username on a server. oso it's not saying that scott and matt exist on your domain; it's saying they exist on someone else's domain who shares this server with you.

The "trick" is to remember than an email account is an alias. This is why the control panel sets up the email address separately from the username.

So...here's what you do:

1 -- create the users with some suffix. Like scott's username could be "scottcl" (for City Lights). Create that user and password and submit. Then...

2 -- Use the dropdown to go to the email address, add an item and then put in "scott" because it's just an alias and you can do it that way. Use the little dropdown to identify the domain as citylights.com (it's the "choose" dropdown).

Now...under that you'll see (already checked "choose from an existing user account" and a dropdown underneath. Drop down and you'll see...voila...scottcl or whatever you gave him.

Highlight that, submit and Scott now has an email account. He logs in as scottcl with his password but he can sure use "scott@…" as his email address.

Hope that helps. Closing. Reopen if you need help.

Alfredo
